Bringing Dry Bones to Life

Wednesday 19 November 2008, by Willem Kuypers // Jean Vanier English

At our weekly L’Arche community gathering for worship a couple of weeks ago, the reading was from Ezekiel, about the prophet’s vision of the valley of dry bones that come to life at the Spirit’s breath. At these gatherings there is always a time when people who wish can pray aloud extemporaneously. In his quiet voice, hardly more than a whisper, Mitch, who was sitting next to me, offered the following singsong recitation:

“Skeletons, bones, bones, Jesus.

Skeletons, bones, Jesus.

Skeletons, bones, bones, Jesus.

Christmas.

Pray to the Lord.”

I thought it a pretty good prayer!
